常青藤理事会副主席:依琳.那门西奥 在发布会上的讲话 2010-7-7
Ladies and Gentlemen,
My name is Irene Villanueva Nemesio, and I speak on behalf of the Ivy Council as its Vice President of Communications for Marketing. It is my pleasure this morning to demonstrate the Ivy Council’s support of the first Dalian Youth Super Spelling Bee Competition.
The Ivy Council is an organization comprised of student leaders from the Ivy League universities in the United States, including Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale. These 8 universities are among the nation’s oldest schools and are known worldwide for their prestige and academic excellence.
Students of the Ivy League are often praised for their rigorous scholarship, ingenuity, dedication and passion. Indeed, many of the scientists, businessmen, politicians, and other world leaders that we celebrate and hold in high esteem today have once walked the campus greens as eager students at one of these universities.
The Ivy Council strives to foster student leadership, facilitate communication, and further students' initiative in making a positive impact on the global community. Over the years, the Ivy Council has sought to expand its programming worldwide. In 2008, the Ivy Council started its Ivy-China program, which provides an opportunity for Ivy League university students and Chinese university students to exchange their academic and cultural experiences by traveling to China and the United States. This summer, the Ivy Council will send two student delegations from the Ivy League to cities such as Beijing, Wuhan, and Shanghai. In March, it will be our honor to host Chinese students as they visit the United States in cities such as New York and Boston.
We would like to thank Mr. Jared Ding from Chinalish Cross-Culture Company for allowing the Ivy Council to play a role in this spelling bee. We recognize that at the heart of the Ivy Council’s mission is first and foremost the student. For this reason, it is with much joy and enthusiasm that the Ivy Council endorses the first Dalian Youth Super Spelling Bee to make a positive investment in the academic achievement of Dalian city’s young people.
To the students participating in the spelling bee: the Ivy Council applauds your willingness and drive to learn and achieve mastery of the English language. We feel honored to have the opportunity to encourage your pursuit of knowledge and hope that this competition will be a pathway to many more opportunities for your future studies so you may achieve success in China and throughout the world.
We look forward to awarding the competition’s finalists with a prize-certificate on behalf of the Ivy Council and sincerely wish the participants the best as they compete.
Thank you!
